Denver, Colorado -- In a sense, this record has been overdue for a long time, " shares MICAH AND THE MIRRORS frontman Micah Morris. "That said, I don’t think it ever would have come to be without the utter and complete destruction of my previous life. In the midst of achieving one of my life goals with Fast Eddy, touring Japan, the band itself imploded. This wasn’t long after the demise of my marriage, and loss my home, my dogs, and of a huge swath of friends.
The day after Fast Eddy broke up, I played the last show in Tokyo alone on a Friday night. I called Dan Dixon the next day and booked studio time for this record. I hadn’t written much of it at all yet, just had some scraps of ideas, and some old songs to cannibalize, but I knew I had to jump, I didn’t have a choice.
I had another week and a half in Japan by myself, and so I started piecing some ideas together in that time. Despite the trauma of the breakup, I managed to experience some amazing adventures there, guided by black and white cats, which happened to be hanging outside of every place that I stayed during the remainder of my time.
When I came home though, I hit an all time low, and felt like I could see myself burning alive on a chair that people had propped up for me. I spent many late nights alone looking out my window towards the radio towers in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, staring into a void. I played piano and guitar until the bright hours of the morning, and at times did nothing but sit there and think.
I was however amazed to see the friends and family that came through for me in that time. Some of which came out of nowhere, and some who I’d never expect. With their support I found the strength to start over and not give up on my lifetime of work with music.
After discussing the record with Randy Michael, he agreed to help produce it. In a number of months, between him, Dan Dixon and I, we pieced together the bones of this thing.
I went to Atlanta in July of 2025, and brought my brother Jeremy to play drums. We worked tirelessly through the Georgia summer heat with Dan’s air conditioning barely holding on for dear life. But within 10 days we finished recording.
Less than a year since my old band broke up, I’m now sitting on Liar’s Chair, and you’re holding it in your hands as we speak. I can say at least I proved it to myself that I can do it. Never let anything stop you from doing the best you can, even if it seems like your life is nothing but a pile of ashes, those ashes really can nourish your own rebirth. This is the first step into my new life, and a new future with Micah and the Mirrors."
